Job description
We are currently looking for committed, resilient and highly-motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistants to work in a school is based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the aims, values and ethos of work within a Special School, or has strong relevant experience with students who have challenging behaviour, autism or severe learning difficulties. The candidate will ideally have experience in Autism support and severe learning difficulties, PECS, Makaton, challenging behaviour and the confidence to cover PPA lessons occasionally.

You will be working with children aged between 4 and 18 years old; each with statements of Special Education Needs. Most of the children you will be working with have very limited communication skills, and some are completely non-verbal. You will be assisting across more than one class, as well as working 1:1 with a selected student.

Experience supporting pupils with PMLD and their personal care needs this will involve changing and feeding. The school has an in-built swimming complex and the successful TA will have to be comfortable in a swimming environment and on occasion may have to enter the pool.

All successful candidates will be required to undergo safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure. A level 3 TA qualification is required for this role. The ideal candidate must have strong literacy & numeracy skills as well as a willingness to be flexible.
