Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Gateshead (Full-Time)

Protocol Education is working with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Gateshead to recruit an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a full-time position starting in September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA who is ready to take on greater responsibility, lead learning and make a positive difference to pupils across the school.

You'll work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver engaging lessons, lead targeted interventions and provide additional support to pupils who need it.

• Monday-Friday
• Term-time only
• Working hours between 8:30am-3:30pm and 8:30am-4:30pm
• Long-term position
• Potential for permanent opportunities

What you'll be doing

• Delivering pre-planned lessons when teachers are absent
• Leading whole-class learning across EYFS, KS1 and KS2
• Planning and delivering targeted literacy and numeracy interventions
• Supporting phonics and other intervention programmes
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing constructive feedback
• Supporting positive behaviour and classroom routines
• Working closely with class teachers to ensure pupils remain engaged and supported
• Helping create a positive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment

We're looking for someone who

• Holds an HLTA qualification or has significant equivalent experience
• Has strong previous experience working within a primary classroom
• Is confident leading lessons and managing a whole class
• Has excellent behaviour management skills
• Can confidently support pupils across different year groups
• Is adaptable, organised and reliable
• Has a genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential
