We are seeking an ambitious, creative and inspirational Head of Art Department for a full-time position starting in September 2026 at a supportive secondary school in Redcar.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Art teacher or current middle leader looking to lead and develop a successful Art department. The school is looking for a passionate practitioner who can drive high standards, inspire creativity and foster a strong culture of artistic expression and achievement across the department.
The successful candidate will:
• Lead and manage the Art department strategically and operationally
• Deliver engaging and inspiring Art lessons across KS3 and KS4, with potential KS5 involvement
• Drive student progress, attainment and participation within the subject
• Support curriculum development and enrichment opportunities
• Mentor and support colleagues within the department
• Promote creativity, high expectations and a positive learning environment
The school is looking for someone who:
• Holds QTS and relevant teaching qualifications
• Has strong subject knowledge and a passion for Art education
• Demonstrates successful teaching experience within secondary education
• Has leadership experience or the ambition and capability to step into middle leadership
• Can inspire students and staff alike through creativity and innovation
• Maintains excellent classroom management and professional standards
