Job description
Special Needs Play Worker based in Latimer (Kensington and Chelsea Borough)

Protocol Education are working with a well-known Day Centre for Special Needs and Disabled children in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea (located near Ladbroke Grove and 10-minute commute from Shepherds Bush Station).

They are currently looking for Play workers to work during half term and school holidays. This role is perfect for agency staff with care experience and Special Needs Teaching Assistants who are available during the holidays.

About the Centre:

The centre is responsible for 12 children during the term time and 25 + children during the holiday.

The centre has two rooms. Room 1 will be used for Arts and Crafts, along with various other creative play.

There is a computer room attached where students are allowed up to 20 minutes per session.

Room 2 is set up for more creative play and has a hoist connected for students with complex needs/PMLD.

There is a purpose-built play area for the children and one sensory room.

The centre also has a fully stocked kitchen and second computer room.

Students:

The learning needs for the student range from mild to severe Autism. Majority of the children that attend the centre have Autism (ASC).

Students special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will also vary with the following:

-Social emotional and mental health difficulties
-complex needs
-Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
-Sensory Needs (Visual Impairment and Hearing Impairment)

Shift patterns:

During term time shift patterns are Monday to Friday 2pm - 6pm.

During Half term/Holiday's patterns are Monday to Friday 9:30am - 5:30pm.

There is no commitment to work full time and daily shifts are available during the holiday.


Staff requirements and expectations:

-Staff are expected to collect children from transport when they arrive on site.
-Expected to greet parents and children. You will be expected to gather information on dietary and additional requirements of the child.
-Reading children's profiles to ensure you're up to date with current needs of the child.
-In the morning (during the holidays) you're expected to attend the briefings.
-Set up the play area that you're designated to in preparation for the children's arrival and assist others if you're area is complete.
-Personal care (feeding and changing) is required in this role. If this is not for you; please do not apply as this is an essential part of the role.

I am looking for candidates with good experience working with children.
Transferable skills in care background will be considered.
Proactive and hard working candidates are ideal characteristics for this post.
