Graduate Teaching Assistant

I am currently working with a mainstream secondary school in North Leeds who are looking for a graduate teaching assistant to support students with special educational needs.

The school are looking for a dynamic teaching assistant who is energetic and passionate about their input into a child's education. This role involves sporting students in KS3 & KS4 across their subjects. The teaching assistant's primary role will be to ensure each student is fulfilling the learning objective for each lesson.

A large focus of this role is supporting SEND children, within each class and your role will be to support their individual needs. The needs include ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, global delay, SEMH, physical and behavioural challenges. Experience working with one or more of these is ideal for this role.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience working with young people, whether you are an aspiring teacher, counsellor, educational psychologist or looking to enter to health-care field.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with students with special educational needs.
  • 1-1 and small group academic support and intervention.
  • Support the welfare of students.
  • Manage challenging behaviour.
  • Implement behaviour and safeguarding policies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and learning environment.
  • Maintain health and safety of students.
  • Have the capability to work independently and effectively within the SEN team.

Requirements for this role:

  • Degree qualification.
  • GCSE qualifications in Maths, English and Science. 
  • Experience working with young individuals – ideally inclusive of work with students with Special Educational Needs.
  • Sound understanding of Special Educational Needs.
  • Effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Sound communication skills.
  • Available to start work within 1 month.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
