Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant – PRU School, Ferryhill

Are you a recent graduate looking to gain valuable experience supporting young people with additional needs before pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology, social work or youth support?

A specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Ferryhill is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Graduate SEND Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine difference while developing your skills in a supportive and rewarding environment.

Working with pupils who have SEND, SEMH needs and additional barriers to learning, you'll play a key role in helping students build confidence, develop positive relationships and achieve their full potential.

Your Role

  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and personalised learning activities
  • Support pupils with SEND, SEMH needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Build positive relationships that encourage engagement, resilience and confidence
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and SEND professionals to support individual learning plans
  • Help monitor pupil progress and celebrate achievements

We're Looking For

  • A recent graduate (Education, Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Childhood Studies or a related subject is desirable, but all graduates are welcome)
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, resilient and proactive approach
  • Experience working with young people is beneficial but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
