Secondary School Learning Support Assistant

Uni is finished. Summer is in full swing. But what are you doing in September?

If you’ve just graduated and you’re sitting there thinking, “Okay… what now?” we might have exactly what you’re looking for.

Schools across South Tyneside are already looking ahead to September, and we’re looking for enthusiastic, confident graduates to join us in a range of education support roles.

And the best part? You don’t need a teaching qualification.

If you’ve got the right attitude, plenty of enthusiasm, a bit of resilience and genuinely enjoy working with young people, there are some brilliant opportunities available.

So, what could you be doing?

Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Work alongside students who need additional support to thrive in school. You could be providing 1:1 support, working with small groups or simply being that calm, consistent person a student can rely on.

Perfect if you’re considering teaching, educational psychology, SEND or youth work.

Mental Health Support Worker
Interested in psychology, wellbeing or pastoral support? You could be helping young people manage their emotions, build confidence, regulate their behaviour and feel safe and supported in school.

Cover Supervisor
Fancy getting classroom experience without committing to teacher training just yet? Cover Supervising is a brilliant stepping stone.

You’ll lead lessons, keep students on track and gain genuine experience in front of a class — without the planning and marking.

Why is this such a good option for graduates?

  • Get valuable experience straight after university

  • Build confidence, resilience and communication skills

  • Great experience for teaching, educational psychology, counselling, youth work and more

  • Many roles can lead to permanent positions in schools

  • Every day is different and you’ll never be stuck behind a desk

  • Flexible opportunities to suit what you’re looking for

What do you get from us?

  • Weekly PAYE pay  no umbrella faff

  • Free CPD and training, including Thrive training

  • A supportive consultant who actually keeps in touch

  • Access to schools that genuinely need and value your support

  • Roles starting in September

  • The chance to build experience while figuring out your next step

So… have you got your September sorted?

If you’ve just finished uni and you’re still figuring out what comes next, you don’t need to have your whole career mapped out yet.

Come and have a chat with us. No pressure, no hard sell — just a proper conversation about the opportunities available and what might suit you.
