Full-Time Deaf Support Teaching Assistant – Gateshead

Protocol Education is supporting a specialist provision in Gateshead that is looking to appoint a full-time Deaf Support Teaching Assistant from September.

This role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference to pupils with hearing impairments by helping them access learning, develop communication skills and build confidence.

 

Duties include

  • Supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils across the school day

  • Using BSL to facilitate effective communication

  • Assisting with classroom learning activities

  • Promoting independence and positive social interaction

  • Collaborating with teachers, families and external agencies

  • Monitoring and reporting on pupil development

 

The ideal candidate will have

  • BSL Level 2 or above

  • Experience working with children or young people (desirable)

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • A patient and empathetic approach

  • A genuine passion for supporting additional needs

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
