Flexible Learning Partner - SEN (Year 5)

Some pupils need extra support to help them navigate the school day with confidence. A calm presence. A trusted adult. Someone who understands that patience and consistency can make all the difference.

We’re working with a supportive primary school in Lawrence Weston looking for a Flexible Learning Partner to provide dedicated 1:1 support within a Year 5 classroom.

This school supports a high number of pupils with complex SEND needs and is looking for someone experienced who can build strong relationships, provide emotional and academic support, and help pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

The role would suit someone who’s adaptable, resilient, and genuinely passionate about supporting children with additional needs in a nurturing and structured environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support within a Year 5 classroom
  • Supporting a pupil with complex SEND needs throughout the school day
  • Helping with emotional regulation, classroom engagement, and learning activities
  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Working closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team to provide consistent support

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous SEND experience within a school or similar setting
  • Feels confident supporting pupils with complex additional needs
  • Is calm, patient, and proactive in challenging situations
  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Is reliable, adaptable, and ready to start ASAP

Due to the location of the school, driving is preferred. However, the school can also be accessed via train and bus routes.

Essential requirements:

  • Enhanced child-only DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
  • References covering the last 24 months
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Overseas police checks required for any overseas stays longer than 3 months within the past 5 years
  • Unfortunately, sponsorship is not available for this role

Why work with Protocol Education?

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
  • Opportunities to expand your SEND experience and training
  • Roles where your support genuinely changes a child’s school experience

This role is ideal for someone who understands that success isn’t always measured in grades, sometimes it’s helping a child feel settled, confident, and ready to take part in the world around them.

Apply today and let’s talk about your next opportunity in SEND support.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website.
