Just achieved QTS and feeling unsure about committing to one school straight away?

You’re not alone.

Protocol Education is working with a wide network of supportive primary schools across Gateshead who are seeking Early Career Teachers for flexible supply and short-term placements.

Working hours are 8.30am to 3.30pm, term time only.

This is an opportunity to step into real classrooms, gain valuable experience, and build your confidence, without locking yourself into a long-term contract before you’re ready.

What Flexible Agency Work Involves

As a supply ECT, you can:

  • Choose the days you want to work

  • Accept bookings that fit around your life

  • Experience EYFS, KS1 and KS2 settings

  • Deliver structured, pre-planned lessons

  • Focus on teaching rather than heavy planning loads

You are never obligated to accept work that doesn’t suit you.

This flexibility allows you to grow at your own pace.

Why This Approach Benefits ECTs

Your first year in teaching can feel intense.

Agency work allows you to:

  • Develop behaviour management skills gradually

  • Observe different teaching styles and school cultures

  • Build resilience and adaptability

  • Strengthen your classroom confidence

  • Avoid early burnout from excessive workload

Many ECTs use supply as a stepping stone before securing permanent roles in schools they genuinely enjoy.

What We’re Looking For

  • UK QTS

  • ECT status

  • Strong understanding of the primary curriculum

  • Professionalism and reliability

  • Commitment to safeguarding

Whether you feel most confident in Early Years or are drawn to KS2, flexible work allows you to explore both.

Why Work with Protocol Education

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies

  • Complete flexibility over your diary

  • No long-term commitment unless you choose it

  • Free CPD Academy access

  • Ongoing consultant support and career advice

We support you from your first booking to your long-term career decisions.
