Protocol Education are recruiting for Drama and performing arts graduates to join their team of cover supervisors and learning support assistants working in secondary schools in and around the Washington area of Sunderland.

We are offering aspiring Drama Teachers the perfect opportunity to jump start their career in education and teaching. Working as a cover supervisor will give Drama and Performing Arts graduates the opportunity to utilise the transferable skills such as confidence, presence, and voice projection.

This work is flexible and can range from daily, short-term and long-term lesson cover on a part-time or full-time basis with some potential to go permanent.


The role of the Cover Supervisor demands flexibility and initiative. Your focus will be on supporting progress by providing classroom supervision for students whose regular teacher is absent. You will be expected to deliver pre-planned learning activities and establish productive working relationships with students in a stimulating and orderly learning environment.

As a Cover Supervisor you will be covering the absence of a teacher and supervising classes of students in a range of subjects such as P.E, Drama or General Cover lessons. Please note that although you will be required to cover lessons cross the curriculum you will not be required to be a subject specialist.

The ideal Candidate will have/be:
• A genuine interest for working with young people
• Confidence to deliver pre planned lessons
• Confidence to manage and control behaviour.
• Experience in leading groups of children
• Have a valid DBS or be willing to complete a new one
• Be aware and comply with safeguarding measures

All candidates will be offered the opportunity to undergo free cover supervisor training.
