Job description
Protocol Education are currently recruiting for a Design & Technology Demonstrator / Technician on a full time basis (37 hrs pw) - the role is to start the end of February start of March - initially there is a trial period for a couple of weeks but if successful the position will be extended.
The role is based in Bristol and easily accessible by public transport.

Main job responsibilities are:

•To work independently or co-operatively with teaching staff to promote high attainment for students whilst ensuring safe use of the workshop and associated machinery.

•Responsibility to provide technical supervision, support and advice to students and training on equipment to other staff. To demonstrate to individual and groups of students, as well as members of non-specialist staff, how to undertake modelling and prototyping activities from a range of material specialities. This may include leading whole group activities.

•To enable the creation of exciting prototype concepts through working with students on the innovative use of materials and processes. This will be in both formal lesson times and in students' private study periods.

•To demonstrate safe working practices, monitor and record all aspects of Health and Safety within the area. This will include student and non-specialist staff induction on safe working practices for a range of equipment and materials.

•Demonstrating practical skills, machine use and use of CAD CAM. Apply a breadth of experience and knowledge to ensure students use materials, machinery and techniques appropriate to their individual prototyping needs.

•Responsibility for routine maintenance of specialist machinery. Tidying and cleaning of machinery, equipment and work areas and will include setting up and demounting equipment.

•Preparation of teaching materials and signage. Managing stock control to include implementing and planning the sourcing, costing, ordering, delivery and racking of materials in anticipation of departmental needs.

•Providing and monitoring access to work areas ensuring safety.

•Providing specialist DT support for other areas of Creative Arts and Design as appropriate including supporting other Technicians with their work at busy times.

•Any other similar work which can be reasonably required by the Creative Arts and Design team
