Job description
A well established, charity ran pre-school is looking to extend their successful team with a Deputy Manager. 

Responsible for managing and supporting a team of 12 friendly Pre-School Assistants in carrying out the day to day duties of running a safe, stimulating early years age group environment where the children can learn and play. Our busy Pre-School hosts around 50 children and you will be assisting the Pre-School Manager (and standing in for when necessary), ensuring that all records and policies are maintained and adhered to. The first point of contact for the staff for any issues and suggestions that arise, you will be an excellent team player and expert communicator.

Responsibilities include:


*Supporting the Pre-School Manager in all aspects of running the Pre-School


*Assisting the Pre School Manager with curriculum planning and overseeing each session to ensure that it meets the requirements


*Managing the team:


-    Coordinating the team and their responsibilities in each session; working closely with the Pre-School Manager to ensure that team members are meeting their targets


-    First point of contact for the team; encouraging the staff and managing any issues, feedback or suggestions raised


-    All aspects of the weekly resourcing/rota planning including staff/child ratios


-    Keeping the team informed on policy & procedure and any changes or updates


-    Reviewing 'Key Person' documentation ensuring that it's relevant and up to date


-    Mentoring new team members


-    Performing staff reviews and appraisals


*Act as a 'Key Person', working closely with parents to ensure that each child's individual needs are recognised and met; performing all of the childcare duties associated with this


* Following all child protection laws and ensuring that guidelines are adhered to as per Pre-School policy


*Organising weekly planning meetings


*General administration including the preparation and printing of parent newsletters and other communications


*Attending and participating in staff meetings to discuss planning and process (possibly out of hours)


*Other duties that contribute to the effective and safe running of the setting,  as required by the Pre-School Manager

Previous experience working with children and in a managing or team leader role is essential.
The postholder is also required to have NVQ Level 3 Childcare & education or above, and the role is subject to a Enhanced DBS check.
