Secondary Cover Supervisors Secondary Teaching

Ready to step into the classroom, lead with confidence, and keep learning on track, even when the usual teacher is away?

We’re working with a forward-thinking secondary school in Sunderland looking for a reliable, calm, and quick-thinking Cover Supervisor to join their team. If you enjoy being at the heart of a busy school day and thrive on variety, this could be your next move.

This isn’t just about handing out worksheets. It’s about keeping momentum going, building positive relationships with students, and making sure every lesson counts.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll step into pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects, keeping students focused, engaged, and on task.

That means:

  • Delivering pre-set lesson materials to KS3 and KS4 pupils
  • Managing classroom behaviour with confidence and consistency
  • Supporting students to complete work independently
  • Feeding back to teaching staff on progress and behaviour
  • Becoming a familiar, trusted face around school

You won’t be planning or marking, but you will be leading the room. Presence matters here.

What makes this school standout?

This Sunderland secondary is known for:

  • Clear behaviour systems that staff can follow
  • A strong pastoral team who step in when needed
  • Well-organised cover lessons, no last-minute guesswork
  • A leadership team that values dependable support staff

If you like structure, straight-talking leadership, and students who know the boundaries, you’ll feel right at home.

Who this role would suit

  • Graduates considering teacher training
  • Experienced cover supervisors looking for consistency
  • Youth workers or sports coaches confident leading groups
  • Former teachers who want classroom time without planning pressure

If you’re calm under pressure, can read a room quickly, and know how to keep 30 teenagers on side without raising your voice, we want to hear from you.

Free CPD and Thrive Training to Help You Step Up

We don’t just place you and wave goodbye.

You’ll get FREE access to our online CPD Academy, including behaviour management, safeguarding updates, and classroom confidence training.

Thinking about teacher training? This role is a brilliant way to build hands-on experience first.

Are you Thrive trained? If not, ask us about our free Thrive training. It’s a great addition to your CV and schools genuinely value it, especially when supporting pupils with social and emotional needs.
