Communication Support Worker

Protocol Education are working on behalf of a Tyneside FE provision to recruit 2 Communication Support Workers to work from September 2021 until at least December 2021.
There are 2 positions available:
Position 1-
Mon 9 am- 12am
Tues 9am-14:30pm
Wed 9am - 12:00am

Position 2-
Tues 9am - 15:45pm,
Wed 9-am- 13:15pm
Thurs 10:45am - 17:00pm

If successful you will support student's access to the curriculum and participation in the life of the college by communicating between spoken English and British Sign Language or Signed Supported English depending on the student's communication preference. You will translate written documents into signed versions or what the student is signing into writing. You will also voice over what a deaf student is saying if their speech is difficult to understand.
As part of your role you will work with teachers to support the learning, educational progress and inclusion of student(s) with a hearing impairment, with the aim of narrowing any attainment gap they have with their hearing peers on entry to college.
You will also give assistance to student(s) with a hearing impairment so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning, experience a sense of achievement and develop independence in learning and other aspects of college life.

Successful candidates will be required to have
·Maths A-C grade
·English A-C grade
·British Sign Language L3 (L6 is desirable)
