BSL & Makaton Support Assistant

We're looking for caring, confident, and dedicated individuals with BSL (British Sign Language) or Makaton training to join a fantastic SEND school in Bristol.

This isn't just another support role. It's a chance to be the person who helps young people find their voice, build confidence, and access learning in a way that works for them.

The school supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including communication and language difficulties. Every day is different, but one thing stays the same, your support will make a genuine difference.

What you'll be doing

• Supporting pupils with communication needs in the classroom
• Using BSL or Makaton to help students engage with learning and express themselves
• Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
• Encouraging independence, confidence, and social development
• Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to create a positive learning environment

We're looking for someone who:

• Has BSL and/or Makaton training or experience
• Is naturally caring, patient, and empathetic
• Feels passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
• Is confident communicating with pupils, families, and colleagues
• Can stay calm, positive, and adaptable throughout the school day
• Wants to be part of a team that celebrates every achievement, big or small

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
