British Sign Language Teaching Assistant

Length of contract: Flexible


A very well-established SEN school in Camden are looking for an enthusiastic, committed person with a minimum of BSL Level 1 skills, good literacy and numeracy skills and experience of working with children that have special needs. The post is to support the learning of a specific child that uses BSL to communicate. This post is long term, linked to the child's Statement/Education Health Care Plan.

Duties and responsibilities:

•Establish a supportive relationship with the child concerned.

•To support the child's learning in class under the direction of the class teacher and to help them to develop their self-esteem.

•To support the class teacher in developing specific activities and carrying out an individual programme for the child, if required.

•To prepare specific activities, by collecting and setting up the necessary classroom equipment and resources under the guidance of the teacher.


Requirements:
•You must hold a minimum Level 1 BSL qualification
•Have experience working with children
•Be willing to work with severe autism and challenging behaviours
•Good sense of humour
•Strong sense of empathy
