Job description
Protocol Education are looking for Braille Support officers based in the Newham. If you have experience working with children with Special education needs or in a mainstream setting as a teaching assistant, and are looking for a new role then we have an exciting opportunity for you.
If you desire a full-time role helping children who are visual impaired or blind or just interested in the help you will be giving a young person life then this is a job for you.

Main responsibilities include:
• To provide in-class support for children with vision impairment in mainstream settings in the London Borough f Newham (primary and secondary).
• To adapt learning materials into braille/tactile formats for lessons.
• To liaise with class teachers regarding access to the curriculum for children with vision impairment in mainstream settings, under the direction of the Braille Support Officer Team Lead and Qualified Teacher of the Vision Impaired.
• To support children during school trips and in extra curricular activates.

The successful candidate will work as part of a highly skilled and dynamic team of professionals to support the education of children (aged 0 - 16 years old) with vision impairment. We are seeking someone motivated and keen to develop a comprehensive set of specialist skills, including braille. Applicants must have recent experience working with children with SEN in mainstream settings. Experience working with children with vision impairment is desirable.

Good Braille competency to Level (Grade) 1 is required.
Braille competency to Grade 2 represents an advantage prerequisite for candidates.

Braille code skills can be acquired/refreshed for free on www.uebonline.org .
We undertake safeguarding checks on all our workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education'. As part of these checks, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in schools. If you do not have a valid subscription to the DBS Update Service, we will require you to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process, at a cost of £44.00
