Job description
We are looking for a behavioural teaching assistant to work in a school based in Lewisham. This position includes working with groups or 1:1 with Key stage 3 and Key stage 4 students who are excluded from/working outside of a normal timetable. This position will involve supervising students and supporting them academically as well as in a pastoral capacity.

Duties and responsibilities:

•Employ different learning techniques and activities to aid students with learning barriers
•Implement strategies to improve student behaviour
•Be able to attend to students emotional well being as well as an academic focus
•Encourage students to uphold expectations and school ethos
•Provide advice and guidance in students social, health and hygiene development
•Participate in assessments of the pupils needs/who is in need of extra support
•Provide support to students with special needs
•Develop productive working relationships with staff and pupils
•Engage in 1:1 mentoring with students who are need of extra support
•Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning/behavior/attendance
•Reinforce self esteem and encourage pupils to take pride in every achievement whether it is academic, behavioral or otherwise

The successful candidate will have:

•Maths and English GCSE grade or above
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•The ability to relate to young people and knowledge of safeguarding guidelines/ procedures
•The ability to keep calm and take control of a situation
•Previous experience in a secondary school and/or a behaviour management position
•A working knowledge of the UK curriculum
•A DBS or be able to apply for a DBS that is on the Update service
