Working with young people can be a rewarding but challenging experience and requires patience, adaptability and a can-do attitude.

The role of a Behaviour Support Assistant is to remove the barriers impacting a young person's ability to access the curriculum, engage in learning and enable them to reach their full potential. When schools re-open Behaviour Support workers will play a key role in re-engaging pupils back into education.

Experience working with young people would be beneficial, but we would welcome applications from candidates who have a background in supporting others in a variety of sectors.

A motivation to work with and improve outcomes for young people is essential.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:

• Build and maintain successful relationships with learners
• Support a named pupil or a group of students in traditional and non-traditional learning environments.
• Deliver activities aimed at engaging pupils in learning / improving behaviour
• Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem.
• Implement behaviour management strategies
• Work with young people at risk of exclusion / excluded from mainstream education
• Offer a supportive approach in a role-modelling/mentoring capacity
• To record observations on young people's behaviour and progress

We would be really interested to hear from candidates who have experience working in challenging settings such as the emergency services, armed forces, prisons and probationary work.

We believe the current circumstances will have brought new challenges for young people. We're looking to resume providing quality support staff for schools in Southwark over the coming weeks , enabling children to return to a stable and supportive environment as quickly as possible.
