SEMH Specialist - Leeds Secondary School

Immediate Start!
If you can provide two recent professional references and hold a DBS on the update service, you could be working the same week!
This school has immediate needs to help and support their students.

Working with young people can be a rewarding but challenging experience and requires patience, adaptability and a can-do attitude.

The role of an SEMH Specialist is to remove the barriers impacting a young person's ability to access the curriculum, engage in learning and enable them to reach their full potential. This is where you step in. You must be resilient.
SEMH students may struggle with behaviour in school they often need a role model to guide them in school to make the right choices.

You will have experience with SEMH individuals, it would be beneficial to your application if this experience is with Secondary aged students. You will have both resilience and patience and understand that it takes time for SEMH students to settle into a new school or a new year group.

Experience working with young people would be beneficial, but we would welcome applications from candidates who have a background in supporting others in a variety of sectors. Your experience could include supporting others such as adults with complex needs, sports coaching or working within a prison.

A motivation to work with and improve outcomes for young people is essential. You need to have a passion to inspire these students and really help engage them with their learning. You will be acting as a role model for these students.

As an SEMH Specialist, you will:

Build and maintain successful relationships with learners
Support a named pupil or a group of students in a mainstream and off-site setting.
Deliver activities aimed at engaging pupils in learning / improving behaviour
Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self-esteem.
Implement behaviour management strategies
Work with young people at risk of exclusion / excluded from mainstream education
Offer a supportive approach in a role-modelling/mentoring capacity
Record observations on young people's behaviour and progress

You MUST be able to provide two professional references (recent work or studies) and have a DBS on the update service or be willing to get one.
You MUST have a clean criminal record and hold a relevant degree if you do not have a lot of relevant experience.

We would be really interested to hear from candidates with experience with SEMH students or individuals who have experience working in challenging settings such as the emergency services, armed forces, prisons and probationary work.
