Behaviour Mentor – SEMH School – Romford & Basildon | September Start (Driving Essential)

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to overcome challenges and develop the skills they need to succeed?

We are working with a specialist SEMH school that operates across Romford and Basildon, and they are looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their team from September.

This specialist provision supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, creating a structured, nurturing, and supportive environment where positive relationships, emotional regulation, and personal development are at the heart of everything they do. The school works closely with pupils to help them build confidence, manage their emotions, develop independence, and re-engage with education.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and wider support professionals across the school’s sites. You will provide targeted support to pupils who may display challenging behaviours, helping them develop coping strategies, build resilience, and make positive choices both inside and outside the classroom.

Please note: Due to the school operating across Romford and Basildon, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, SEND, or challenging behaviour
  • Be calm, patient, and consistent when supporting pupils through difficult situations
  • Have strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships
  • Be passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their goals
  • Be flexible and confident working across different school sites
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a specialist SEMH provision where you can make a lasting impact on the lives of young people. The school offers a supportive working environment, ongoing training, and opportunities to develop your skills within specialist education.

If you are looking for a role where you can inspire, encourage, and support pupils to reach their potential, we would love to hear from you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
