Behaviour Mentor

SEND School or Alternative Provision

Location: Doncaster
Pay: £89.38 -£100 (Depending on EXP) PAYE
Start date: ASAP

Are you calm under pressure, great at building trust, and passionate about helping young people thrive emotionally as well as academically?

We’re working with a supportive SEND school or alternative provision looking for a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their team. This role is all about relationships, consistency, and helping pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

The role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll work closely with pupils who may experience social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. You’ll provide structured support, model positive behaviour, and help young people develop the skills they need to regulate emotions and engage with learning.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Supporting pupils one-to-one or in small groups to promote positive behaviour
  • Using de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour management approaches
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Supporting emotional wellbeing through mentoring and reflective conversations
  • Working closely with teachers, SEND staff, and pastoral teams
  • Helping pupils develop resilience, confidence, and self-awareness

What we’re looking for

We’re keen to hear from people who bring empathy, patience, and consistency to their work. You don’t need to have followed one specific route, but you should have a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people with additional needs.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND or behavioural needs
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A calm, reflective, and non-judgemental approach
  • Confidence mentoring pupils who may be dysregulated or disengaged
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

Experience in a SEND school, PRU, AP, youth work, or similar setting is highly valued.

Safeguarding

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to appropriate safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS.

Why this role matters

This is a chance to make a real difference. You’ll be helping pupils feel safe, supported, and understood, often at moments when they need it most. Small wins here can lead to big changes over time.

What you’ll get

  • Weekly pay through PAYE
  • Access to free CPD and training opportunities
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
  • Opportunities to work in settings that genuinely value behaviour and wellbeing support

If you’re Thrive trained, that’s a big plus. If not, we’ll happily talk to you about our free Thrive training and how it can support your development and boost your impact in role.
