Protocol Education are working with a well-known SEND school in Leicestershire. This is a large Special Needs School with over 200 students from Early years through to Secondary School. (EYFS to KS4).

They are currently looking for a Learning Support Assistant with experience working with students with Autism and challenging behaviour. The role will be working on a 1:1 basis with students to assist in their learning and development.

Many of the students in this class are non-verbal and communicate using PECS (Picture exchange communication system) and/or Makaton (basic speech and sign language).

Students age range from 14 years to 19 years in age. The school are looking for candidates who can cope with students who will have:

-Random outbursts of aggression (biting, scratching, spitting)
-Difficulty in transitioning from one classroom to another
-Social emotional and mental health issues
-Development delay.
-As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be expected to support the students in small groups (2 - 3 students) or depending on the need of the child, one to one support.

Ideal candidate:

-Ability to be flexible and adaptable.

-Ability to interact well with the children.

-Previous experience with Autistic children and challenging behaviours is essential.

-Restraint training is advantageous but not essential.
