Job description
Special Needs Support Assistant

Do you have the drive and enthusiasm to succeed in an all age specialist provision in Newcastle upon Tyne for children and young people with autism (3-19 years)?

The Governors of this specialist provision in Newcastle are looking to appoint a SENTA with experience working 1:1 with pupils with ASD. The range of abilities stretches from P Levels to lower National Curriculum levels. You will need to demonstrate an interest in children, be enthusiastic, creative, confident and professional.

. The role of a SENTA includes:
·Experience and/or interest in teaching pupils with ASD and associated difficulties.
·Experience working with pupils who have significant learning difficulties and complex needs.
·Improving the communication and interaction of the supported pupil
·Supporting the sensory and physical needs of the pupil
·Challenging the cognition and learning of the pupil
·Pupil Progress targets/Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
·Working closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO and external professionals
·Providing a fun and supportive environment for children to learn and show a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
