Autism Specialist Teacher – Gateshead

A forward-thinking specialist school in Gateshead is looking to appoint an experienced Autism Specialist Teacher to join their dedicated team from September.

The school supports children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication needs and social, emotional and mental health challenges. Staff work within a highly supportive environment that prioritises therapeutic interventions, sensory-informed practice and personalised education plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to individual learning needs
  • Implementing communication and sensory support strategies
  • Establishing positive classroom routines and structured learning environments
  • Promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience and independence
  • Supporting the development of social skills and positive peer relationships
  • Working closely with therapists, support staff and families

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Previous experience working with pupils with Autism and additional needs
  • Strong knowledge of adaptive and inclusive teaching practices
  • Patient, consistent and nurturing approach
  • Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for every learner

Interviews are scheduled ahead of the summer holidays with the opportunity for a long-term or permanent appointment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
