Job description
ASD Teaching Assistant

Special Needs Teaching Assistants required in Primary schools ASAP.

Day-to-day/ long term temporary positions available.

Competitive pay-rates.

We are currently looking to register Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants with particular interest in Autism, to support in various schools across East London.

We have requirements in specialist schools for children with Autism, as well as ASD units in mainstream schools, assignments vary from ad hoc day-to-day bookings, to block and long term bookings.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. Children and adults with autism have difficulties with everyday social interaction. People with autism can often have accompanying learning disabilities but everyone with the condition shares a difficulty in making sense of the world.

People with autism generally experience three main areas of difficulty; these are known as the triad of impairments (social interaction, social communication and imagination). In addition to this triad, repetitive behaviour patterns and resistance to change in routine are often characteristic. Programmes like TEACCH are often used to work with autistic pupils.

Main duties will include:
•supporting children on a 1-2-1 basis
•acting as a support to the teacher when working in a group setting

To be considered for this role or any similar positions you must have:
•Experience/interest in a school/education Special Needs setting and knowledge of ASD/Autism.
•Experience/interest working with Special Educational Needs, in particular Autism/ASD and challenging behaviour
•Experience with PECS/TEACCH or is also an advantage
