Job description
Protocol Education are currently looking for proactive and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants with particular interest in Autism, to support a large ASD provision in the London Borough of Barnet.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. Children and adults with autism have difficulties with everyday social interaction, and can often have accompanying learning disabilities. As a spectrum disorder, Autism presents differently in each person but everyone with the condition shares a difficulty in making sense of the world.

The school we are working with is a large mainstream Secondary School with an integrated ASD provision, providing secondary education for up to 55 children across all year groups. It is easily accessible by Northern Line, Piccadilly Line Overground and local bus routes. There is ample parking on site for car drivers.

Main duties will include:
• supporting children on a 1-2-1 basis
• acting as a support to the teacher when working in a group setting

To be considered for this role or any similar positions you must have:
• Experience/interest in a school/SEN setting and knowledge of ASD
• Experience working with children or adults with challenging behaviour

• Experience with PECS/TEACCH or Makaton is also an advantage, as is a Team Teach (or similar) qualification.

If you have experience working with children or young adults with special education needs, and are interested in making a positive contribution to the lives of young people, please send your CV or call Simon on 020 3219 7740.
