Art Graduate – Creative SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Gateshead
Start Date: September/  Immediate start

Creative graduates, this one’s for you.

We’re working with a Gateshead SEMH school that uses creative expression as a powerful tool for engagement and emotional regulation.

Some pupils struggle to communicate with words. That’s where you come in.

Your role:

  • Supporting students through creative, practical learning

  • Encouraging self-expression through art and design

  • Helping reduce anxiety through structured creative activities

  • Working 1:1 with pupils who disengage in traditional lessons

  • Supporting behaviour positively and calmly

Your creativity won’t be an “extra”. It will be a tool.

What you’ll gain:

  • Experience in therapeutic and creative interventions

  • Training in behaviour and trauma-informed practice

  • Daily collaboration with supportive staff

  • A structured, well-supported SEMH environment

Why choose Protocol Education?

  • Weekly PAYE pay

  • Access to SEND-specific training

  • Long-term career pathways into teaching or therapy

  • A consultant who understands SEN settings

If you want to use your creativity to change lives, not just build a portfolio, this is a brilliant place to start.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website.
