Job description
Protocol Education are seeking Qualified Teachers to provide 1:1 tuition for Looked After Children (LAC) or Home Schooled via the Virtual School.

We work with several Local Authorities across the region, providing education for young people in care on a temporary or longer term basis. Assignments vary in length according to each individual child's circumstances; they may have recently relocated from another area into temporary foster care, have been excluded from mainstream education, or be awaiting confirmation of a school place. Some pupils may also be able to access full time education for medical reasons.

You may be required to provide tuition in the home, in a residential setting, or within a community setting such as a local library - this again depends on individual circumstances. We require tutors who are able to provide specific intervention, predominantly within Maths and English, but welcome applications from teachers with other subject specialisms.

As a tutor, you will be required to teach in line with a pupil's Personal Education Plan (PEP) and, where necessary, their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). You will also be required to contribute to pupils' LAC reviews and transitions where applicable. All tutors are required to provide written session feedback, including creating SMART targets which relate to achievement, making sure the young person has a voice in setting their learning targets. You will also be responsible for promoting a culture of high expectations and aspirations for how Looked After Children learn.

Successful Candidates must have:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS), ideally in Maths and/or English. (Other subject specialisms will be considered)
Previous experience working with vulnerable young people
Flexible availability to conduct either morning, afternoon, or evening sessions (minimum 2 hours at least 3 times a week)
A sound understanding of the challenges faced by young people in care
The ability to liaise with parents/carers, Social Workers, Residential Support Workers, Virtual Head Teachers and/or other key workers

If this role is of interest please contact Louise Waite 0208 461 8900 or email louise.waite@protocol-education.com
