Primary Teaching and Learning Assistants Special Needs

A welcoming primary school in BS4 is looking for a compassionate Teaching Assistant to support a lovely Year 1 pupil with Autism on a 1:1 basis.

This little one is bright, curious, and thrives with routine. Transitions can feel overwhelming, and busy classroom moments need careful navigation. That’s where you come in.

You’ll be the steady hand helping them access learning, build friendships, and feel safe in their school day. The SENCO is experienced, the class teacher is collaborative, and there’s a clear support plan already in place.

This isn’t about “just sitting next to a child”. It’s about building trust, spotting triggers early, and celebrating progress that others might miss.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children with Autism

  • Calm, patient and emotionally aware

  • Confident using visual timetables and structured routines

  • Strong communication skills

  • Proactive and observant

  • A genuine passion for inclusive education

You understand that progress might look different here, and that’s absolutely fine.

What Protocol Education Can Offer

  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies

  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy

  • SEND-focused training modules

  • A dedicated consultant who checks in regularly

  • Long-term placements in supportive schools

  • Referral rewards for recommending friends

We’ll make sure you feel prepared, supported and properly valued.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website.
