The role : To effectively support both SEN (Special Educational Needs) and EAL (English as an Additional Language) students aged 11-16 years, it's important to demonstrate strong English language skills, a clear understanding of the needs of these students, and relevant experience in supporting them.
The role includes :
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons, providing additional support to students who may require extra assistance in understanding and completing tasks.
- Modify instructional materials to cater to the diverse needs and abilities of students, particularly focusing on EAL students to enhance their understanding of English language and academic content.
- Work with students on a one-on-one basis, tailoring instruction and activities to accommodate individual learning styles and address specific learning needs, especially those with SEN.
- Facilitate language development for EAL students by implementing strategies to improve their English language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
- Encourage and engage EAL students in language-rich activities to boost their confidence and integration into mainstream classes
- Implement behaviour management techniques and strategies to support students with behavioral challenges or emotional difficulties, ensuring a conducive and respectful classroom environment.
- Offer emotional support to students, providing a safe space for them to express themselves and addressing any emotional concerns they may have.
- Assist in conducting assessments and evaluations to measure student progress and identify areas for improvement, providing valuable input to teachers for educational planning.:
- Maintain open communication with teachers, parents, and other support staff to share updates on student progress, concerns, and achievements.
- Collaborate with teaching colleagues to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for SEN students, ensuring their unique needs are met.
- Prepare and organize teaching materials, resources, and equipment necessary for lessons, ensuring they are accessible and appropriate for the diverse needs of students.
- Advocate for inclusive teaching practices and contribute to creating an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment that promotes equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their abilities or background.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training to stay informed about best practices in supporting EAL and SEN students and enhancing your skills as a teaching assistant.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
