Travel Tips for Teachers

You’re probably wondering whether your hard earned pounds will afford you many travel opportunities while you’re here, and if these jet setters are anything to go by it would certainly seem that they will

SHARON – AUSTRALIAN SECONDARY TEACHER - LONDON
In the words of the teenagers we teach….OH MY GOD!!!!!! London is a very cool city, truly multicultural, people from all over the world, living together in relative peace and harmony. Mad fun! And hello centre of Europe, since being here I travelled to Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, Croatia, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Gran Canaria, the French Riviera and the French Alps. Hello happy days!!

NAOMI – AUSTRALIAN PRIMARY TEACHER - LONDON
G’day! Bonjour! Top of the morning to ya! My name is Naomi and I’m an Aussie and as of January 2010 I have been teaching in South and East London through Protocol and loving it!
I left my hometown in Queensland, Australia and have been to Denmark, Sweden, Scotland, Ireland, Portugal and Spain, not to mention my daily trips being a tourist around London. My most recent trip was to Portugal and Spain where due to the volcanic eruption left us stranded for twelve days, not that we were complaining, no way…beautiful beaches, insane partying and sitting soaking up the sun. Advice for those coming over: get off the couch, drop the book and get here! Your travelling life starts when you first touch UK soil. It’s an amazing once in a lifetime experience and I wouldn’t change a thing! GO FOR IT!

LYNDALL – SECONDARY TEACHER - HERTFORDSHIRE
My family of mum, dad and three kids have been in England for 41/2 months now and have taken every opportunity to travel. Two weeks after our arrival we travelled to Brighton and were lucky enough to make friends with a married couple we met in a pub. They own a villa on the south coast of Spain which they let us use during the February half-term break.
We’ve also had weekends away to York and Telford. We just spent another weekend in Brighton, staying with our friends. Over the Easter holidays we went on a nine day road trip around Ireland and Northern Ireland. The weather was fabulous and our walk to Giant’s Causeway was our favourite. For any Aussies familiar with the car game ‘spotto’, in the absence of windmills, we used castles and church ruins to win points.

REBECCA – AUSTRALIAN SECONDARY TEACHER- BRISTOL
My experiences have all been positive. Since coming to Bristol I've been all over the UK to places such as Bath, Stone Henge, Wells, Weston Super-Mare, Cheddar & Glastonbury. Wales is pretty close, so it is next on my list as well as Dartmoor, York and many other places throughout England. During the Easter holidays I went through Europe (Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, & France) and had a great time. In a week I am also going on a Mediterranean cruise and then off to Rome! It's possible to do all these things during either the school holidays, weekends or even during the school term if you wish, working as an agency teacher, as it provides the flexibility to do so.
