Departure Services

Heading back home? Here are the documents you’ll need:

Statement of Service

As an agency we cannot provide a detailed reference commenting on your classroom skills, but we can generate a 'Statement of Service' that records all of the work you have completed through Protocol Education, detailing schools and dates. This can be used to establish salary rates in future employment back home. It can be provided to you in PDF format by email, or posted as a hard copy. Contact Teacher Services (hblack@protocol-education.com) to request a statement of service.

UK Police clearance

Upon returning to work in your country of origin, you will need to provide a recent police clearance that covers you for your work in the UK. It is essential that you keep your copy of your CRB safe, as Protocol Education is unable to provide you the copy that is issued to us as an agency.

If you do not have a recent CRB, we may be able to help you apply for a new check before you leave – there may be a cost for this application. This should be done well in advance of your departure, as CRB applications can take 2-6 weeks to process.

You can also approach your local police service in the UK directly to make a “Subject Access Request”, under the Data Protection Act 1998. This document will cover the whole period of time you have been living in the UK, and there is a charge for this service also. In London, you need to apply for this through the Metropolitan Police (http://www.met.police.uk/information/request_forms.htm).

Tax Documents: P85

When leaving the United Kingdom you should fill in a P85 form. By doing so, you declare that you no longer intend to work in UK during the current tax year. By sending this form to the Inland Revenue, along with your P45, you are able to claim any excess tax. The fact that you have not worked all 52 weeks of the tax year means you will not have used all of your allowance, hence a rebate may be payable. This rebate takes approximately 8 – 12 weeks, and is posted to you as a cheque if you are abroad. The P85 can be downloaded on the HMRC website (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/index.htm)

Tax Documents: P45

Your P45 is a document held by your main employer, and must be included with your P85 if you are claiming a rebate. This can be requested in advance from your main employer, but needs to be issued after you complete your paid work.

If you are paid directly through Protocol Education(PAYE), your P45 will be issued by our Payroll Department. They will also be able to provide a P85 and details of the tax office it needs to be forwarded to. Contact Teacher Services (hblack@protocol-education.com) to request your P45, which can be posted to you while you are overseas.

If you are paid through My Key Pay (Umbrella Company), you will need to contact Key and ask them to issue you a P45, as they are considered your main employer. They will be able to assist you with other aspects, including claiming rebates.

Statement of Earnings

A statement of earnings can also be generated, detailing your total earnings through Protocol Education for each tax year. This is sometimes requested in order to establish salary rates in future employment.

If you are paid directly through Protocol Education (PAYE), contact the Payroll Department (payroll@protocol-education.com) to request your Statement of Earnings.

If you are paid through My Key Pay (Umbrella Company), you will need to contact Key directly.
