Classroom Support FAQs

What type of work can I do as a Support Worker

Protocol Education the full daily, long-term or permanent range of work for Support Workers in Primary, Secondary and Special Schools. So really it is a question of what work do you want to do?

Protocol offer a number of Support Worker roles:

Teaching Assistant: Assists teachers in their classrooms, including preparing and tidying away materials and equipment and supporting individuals or small groups of pupils/students.

Cover Supervisor: An experienced classroom practitioner who delivers pre-prepared lessons in the absence of a class teacher, ensuring that the pupils/students' development is continued and maintained.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA): Complements the work of teachers in the classroom, and makes a substantial contribution to the planning, delivery and evaluation of educational activities for individuals, groups and whole classes.

Learning Support Assistant (LSA): Delivers educational activities to individuals or groups of pupils/students under the guidance of a teacher, and provides support within the classroom.

Special Support Assistant (SSA): Delivers educational activities to individuals or groups of pupils/students in a Special Needs setting. Additionally will contribute to the support of SEN pupil’s day to day routines

Nursery Nurse: Works as a professional in a team providing quality care and education to promote the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of each child, and supports effective teaching and learning in designated classes.
